Meditation
Schedule
-
Monday evenings starting at
6:10 p.m.
at Shove Chapel located at 1010 North Nevada on the campus of Colorado College.
First Monday of the month: sutra service, followed by one 25-minute period of
meditation
Second Monday: one 25-minute sitting period
followed by a social gathering
Third Monday: one 25-minute meditation period followed by a Dharma talk,
reading or tape
Fourth Monday: two 25-minute meditation periods
Fifth Monday: one 25-minute meditation period followed by a "Wayseeking
Mind" talk by a sangha member
Please note that each 25-minute meditation
period is followed by five minutes of walking meditation.
The group gathers at Shove Chapel beginning at about 6:00 to set up altar,
cushions and chairs. There is no charge or fee, but donations are appreciated. It
is best to wear comfortable, loose-fitting, dark clothing without patterns and
designs, but if you come from work and cannot change clothes, it's not a
problem. Newcomers are encouraged to come by 6:00 for some orientation. At 6:10
the evening begins, see the list of weekly sits above for what to expect that
evening. At the end of the last period of meditation the
Four Boundless Vows are chanted,
and there is a time for sharing and announcements.
-
Wednesday Mornings from 6:00
a.m. to 7:00 a.m. at Shove Chapel.
-
Saturday Mornings from
6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. also at Shove Chapel. After the sitting many of us
usually walk to a nearby coffee shop for breakfast.
Saturday Morning summer hours (6:00a.m. to 8:00 a.m.) begin effective May 24,
2008.
On the occasional Monday evening when we are not able to sit
at Shove Chapel due to a college event we often announce meetings to be held in nearby establishments and
hold dharma discussions there. Often we learn of the
"bump" on short notice and are unable to post
the news here. When a sitting has been
canceled, we usually gather at Wooglins Deli located just south of Shove Chapel
near the South East corner of Tejon and Cache La Poudre.

Supporting the
Sangha
We are sometimes asked if there are
membership dues for Springs Mountain Sangha. So far we have not found it
necessary to assess membership dues, but there are some ongoing expenses
which are paid out of the contributions of those who attend our sittings
on Monday evening, Wednesday morning and Saturday morning.
We hold three retreats a year and they
are expected to pay for themselves from registration fees and
contributions. This is not always possible, so it helps to have some
reserves in the treasury.
You may place your
contribution in the donation bowl at one of our weekly sits, but please feel free to sit with
us, whether you can contribute or not. Your presence is your greatest
contribution.
The Springs Mountain Sangha operates
entirely on donations from members and friends. In 2005, our sangha was incorporated
as a non profit organization in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
