Springs Mountain Sangha Hiking Retreat

July  27, 2014

What

A hike/retreat that will have about 2 1/2 hours (6 miles) of actual hiking with practices and lunch interspersed throughout.  There is some elevation gain and loss.  The retreat will be led by Sarah Bender, Sensei.

We are inviting you to the first SMS hiking retreat, a meditation day of sitting, walking, resting, eating and conversing together in the mountains.
“If you really want to understand life and death, you have to observe the moment before thoughts are born; observe when walking, when standing, when sitting, when lying down….Where a thought has not yet arisen, the complete truth spontaneously manifests.”
Miyun Yuanwu

The trail is gloriously beautiful, the day is planned like this:

7:00 AM: meet at the Red Rock Safeway parking lot 31st and Colorado Ave.  We’ll carpool from there.
7:40ish:  Arrive at trailhead, have a cup of tea.
8:00:  Walk in silence for about 50 minutes.  This will be our first stop.  *Some or all of us will continue on a 50 minute loop; or, it can be a longer stop with stretching or meditation for those not wanting the extra miles.
10:00 Reading, talking, meditation and then walk to the creek
11:30 – 12:30:  Hike to Aspen Gate:  Gatha offering, some silence, and then meditation followed by lunch (bring your lunch with something to share!)

From here there is a short walk to the trailhead.
Where

The North Catamount Trail off Edlowe Road in Woodland Park.  Edlowe Road is about 1 mile on the left past the hospital in Woodland Park.  The trailhead is at the end of the road on the left side marked by bathroom facilities and a trail map.

Cost

Absolutely nothing.
